About Donny

First things first: Donny is big. A big goof, a big sweetheart, and yes, a big dog. But even at 120 lbs, this 9-year-old Great Pyrenees is really just a gentle giant who wants a calm place to lounge, cuddle, and be loved.
Donny is an easygoing, low-energy boy who has spent much of his life as a city dog. He has lived happily in apartments and does not need a huge home or yard to be content. His favorite activities include relaxing by a window, taking long naps, snoring, going for walks, getting attention from admirers, and occasionally taking a short break from lounging to play with his toys or come over for pets and hugs.

He is fully house-trained, very well mannered in the home, and has never been destructive with furniture, shoes, or household items. Despite his size, he is surprisingly aware of his surroundings and is not the type to barrel through a home knocking things over. He is also very sweet and gentle with his people, and he loves affection.

Donny is deeply loved by his family, but as their household has changed, it has become clear that he would be happiest and most comfortable in a calm, adults-only home. He has not adjusted well to life with a toddler, and his family wants to find him an environment where he can truly relax and thrive.

His ideal home would be with adults, preferably as the only dog. He may be able to live with a smaller, calm female dog, but a quiet home where he can be the center of attention would likely be best. Donny is a city boy at heart, but he also loves the beach, fresh air, and peaceful time with his people.

Donny is in great health and has so much love to give. His family adores him and is committed to helping him find the right home, one where he will be safe, happy, comfortable, and cherished for the wonderful dog he is.
“He wins the cutest dog of the week!”

Donny is approximately 9y 0m 27d old and is fully grown at 120 pounds. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done.

Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble. It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog.

Great Pyrenees temperament

Calm, independent and gentle, bred to guard livestock alone for days. That independence means they think for themselves rather than looking to you for direction, and they are natural night barkers.

Exercise

Low to moderate for their size — a couple of long relaxed walks. They are not endurance athletes.

In a NYC apartment

Hard in an apartment mostly because of size, shedding and their instinct to bark at every noise. Individuals raised as city dogs can do fine — ask the foster.
